Have a look at a recent paper of ours which appearded in that huge
volume of TOPLAS. It deals with most of the issues you mentioned in a
quite genereal manner and provides pointers to more specialized
incremental generators and compilers.


The reference is: J. Heering and P. Klint and J. Rekers, ``Lazy and
incremental program generation'' in ACM Transactions on Programming
Languages and Systems pp. 1010-1023, volume 16, number 2, may 1994.
