The GNU folks are supposedly creating an extension language called
GUILE, that is very scheme-like in its form. Visit
ftp://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu and poke around for references to GUILE.

Current status unknown.

If it's anything like E-lisp, it'll be small, and moderately quick. And
it'll provide the ability to add new builtins into the system, either by
statically linking in new code, or dynamically loading shared libraries
of code.
