PROJECT

The Computer Science Department is looking to hire two researchers to
participate in ARPA-sponsored research projects in the areas of parallel
and distributed computing and nomadic systems design and evaluation.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Under direction of the Principal Investigators, assume responsibility
for the design and implementation of an environment to evaluate the
performance of scalable systems, including wireless nomadic and
high-performance computing systems. The performance studies will use
analytical and parallel simulation models to study major components of
the operating system. Participation will also be required in the ongoing
design of C, C++, and Java based parallel simulation environments,
including run-time systems, compiler, and documentation.

Responsibilities include:

* generate and pursue independent research directions within the scope
of the project in the area of performance evaluation of system software
for scalable parallel systems.
* supervise research assistants and programmers engaged in the design
and implementation of the environment envisaged under the goals of this
research project.
* draft technical reports on project activities and give technical
presentations related to the project goals and accomplishments.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

A Ph.D. or M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
required. Demonstrated knowledge of parallel computing, simulations, and
systems programming strongly preferred.

The candidate should possess good communication skills and be able to
write technical reports and make technical presentations. Demonstrated
ability to lead and manage research projects and the ability to foster a
collaborative work environment are desirable.
