The Advanced Computing Research Centre (ACRC) is one of the University
of South Australia's nine research centres. The ACRC encompasses three
research groups based in the School of Computer and Information Science
and is enjoying rapid growth in its research activity.

The Centre is seeking to appoint a postdoctoral candidate with excellent
research potential to participate in the following research project.

* Highly Concurrent Architectures/Custom Computing

This Australian Research Council funded project involves the design and
application of a novel simulation architecture based on Field Programmable
Gate Array technology. This architecture, together with associated modelling
techniques, permits the rapid simulation and analysis of a class of
concurrent complex systems. These systems, which are computationally hard to
simulate using von Neumann architectures, are characterised by being highly
concurrent and include traffic systems, biological systems and integrated
circuits.

This project is moving into a phase which requires the development of
design languages, design methodologies and compilation techniques for
mapping systems/algorithms onto the underlying technology.

Applicants should have a background in at least one of the following:
concurrent and parallel architectures, systems design techniques,
design/description languages.

Preference will be given to candidates with a relevant Ph.D. and strong
research record pertinent to the area of appointment. Interested
applicants should address specific enquires to the above contact.

Applications with curriculum vitae including the names of two referees
should be forwarded to Mr Grant Wiles, Personnel Officer, Human Resources,
University of South Australia, Warrendi Road, The Levels SA 5095
