Subject: ANNOUNCEMENT: Open positions at the Object Software Group


SCOPE: Object-Oriented Languages, Abstract Interpretation,
              Compilers, Mobile electronic documents, Software Agents,
              Telepresence Applications.






The Object Software Group of the University of Geneva (Switzerland)
is seeking to hire qualified researchers to fill up one or more of the
following possitions:


      Post Doctoral Research position, in Static analysis of modular systems
      Post Doc or PhD track position in Multimedia Telepresence Applications
      PhD track position in Mobility support in object-oriented languages
      PhD track position in Electronic Publishing


beginning October 1, 1996 or later.


PhD POSITION


      TOPIC: Static analysis of modular systems.
      The applicant will carry out research in the field of abstract
      interpretation of object-oriented programming languages.
      In particular composable and modular analysis techniques will
      be studied.


      A PhD in computer science is required with experience in
      static analysis and programming languages. Good writing
      skills are welcome.


      This research is in the framework of a Swiss FNRS project,
      part of larger project on mobile object systems.


PhD or DOCTORAL POSITION


      TOPIC: Multimedia Telepresence Applications
      The applicant will work on the integration and development of
      augmented reality telepresence applications using multimedia
      communication systems over broadband networks.


      A degree in computer science is expected along with very good
      programming skill with experience with UNIX, C++, multimedia applications.


DOCTORAL POSITION (1)


      TOPIC: Mobility support in object-oriented languages.
      The applicant will design and implement language extensions
      for building mobile objects systems. He/She will investigate
      three extensions to the object-oriented approach to ease the
      task of programming mobile object systems: user controlled
      dynamic linking, object islands, and generative communication.


      A degree in computer science is expected along with very good
      programming skills and experience with UNIX, C++ and Java.


DOCTORAL POSITION (2)


      TOPIC: Electronic Publishing
      The applicant will work on the integration of an electronic
      document publishing system with an agent language with the goal of
      creating a system for the distribution and commercialization
      of electronic documents.


      A degree in computer science is expected along with very good
      programming skill with experience with UNIX, C++, Java.




SALARY


      40K $US - 60K $US depending on qualifications and position.


WORK ENVIRONMENT


      The Object Software Group at the University of Geneva consists of 11
      computers scientist following three main research tracks:
      1) object-oriented programming languages, type system,
            static analysis, mobile object systems;
      2) applications of object technology in multimedia, telepresence,
            hypertext and www;
      3) financial applications.


    The working language is English. Knowledge of French is desirable.
    All positions may involve some teaching duties.
